These musical adaptations of children's stories are composed in a Classical style, drawing upon the myriad of musical influences that have shaped my life. Using an array of sounds and techniques on the piano, my intention was for the accompaniment to add depth to the words and color to the stories, inviting the imagination to paint it's own pictures. Sitting amidst hundreds of school children, each excited and riveted by a performance of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, I nostalgically recalled times during my own childhood when I felt transported by music. This was the initial inspiration for "Music Stories"-a desire to compose similar works for piano. Then Newtown happened. In the immediate aftermath of that unspeakable tragedy, I was asked to perform at one of the memorial services. The power of music was palpable. I was further compelled to create something for children. Time and again I am so privileged to see how music inexplicably touches our souls. I hope that Music Stories will be entertaining and educational for children, parents, grandparents, and great grandparents and that they might be enduring and transcending.
