Kirby James Snively, (most people just call him Kirby), was born in Petoskey Michigan in 1960 and grew up across the bay in Harbor Springs. Kirby has been performing music for well over thirty years now. He picked up the guitar when he was only eight and soon began writing his own songs. Early influences included artists like Dylan, Prine, Croce, Denver, Taylor, Mitchell, Stevens, CSN & Y, as well as a wide variety of country and rock masters...the list is endless. At fifteen, he started experimenting with the harmonica on a rack to compliment his finger picked style of acoustic guitar and has never looked back. Along the way he studied Art and Furniture Design at the Kendall School in Grand Rapids. After a few years of bouncing around the States and the Caribbean Islands, he finally built a home near Good Hart. This sometimes brutal - but more often beautiful - place in the country, is where he now lives with his wife, Betrina and two sons, Eli and Rigel. Today he continues to balance his passion for fine woodworking with songwriting. Kirby was one of the early founders of the Blissfest Music Organization, Northern Michigan Songwriters In The Round and the Lamb's Retreat for Songwriters.
