Singer/songwriter Juan Ortega has been involved in education since the early 1970's. He is a retired middle school teacher who taught Spanish to children through songs. Juan wrote and recorded many popular regional New Mexico songs, some of which have become standard songs such as Padre Querido, Una Docena De Rosas, Mira, Mira Corazón and Que Grande El Amor De Dios. He has inspired many teachers to teach Spanish using his lively learning songs in the classroom. In 1976, he had the top selling record in New Mexico with his famous double hit recording of Padre Querido and Mira, Mira Corazón. Juan is semi-retired and teaches Spanish at Luna Community College in Las Vegas, New Mexico. The CD, Los Niños Son El Futuro is a collection of songs for the classroom which include eight of his original compositions, two traditional songs and two instrumental songs. The lyrics are included along with the English translations.
