Grampa and Grammy Russell's storytelling began in 2002 when Grampa was invited to tell stories for the Children's Moment during worship services at First United Methodist Church in Wenatchee, Washington. Soon Grampa got lonely telling the stories so Grammy joined him. Grampa wrote each of the stories based on the biblical text for a worship service. The stories are set in a modern setting that children could identify, such as homes, parks, church schools, and schools. They deal with children from three to 11 who learn to solve their own problems with humor and faith in adventures with bullying, self-esteem, fear, love, mistakes, fighting, death, discrimination, self-centeredness, cultural differences, and justice. The stories offer models of children's personal relationships with God and Jesus, while providing insight to biblical concepts such as baptism, joy, giving, loving, grace, Eucharist, death, piety, justice, and humility. The original stories have been well received as a thoughtful, enlightening, and fun-filled ministry to children and family members in the worship service and as a basis for classroom teaching after the children leave the service. Grammy served as the first editor. Others within the church have served as review editors and provided helpful hints and comments on the stories, including Tom Eberle, Andi Earvin, Bob Brizee, Tracy Faulkner and teachers in the children ministry such as Rosa Eilert and Shawn Busse. The stories are constantly being updated as they are told and experienced. Grampa and Grammy would like to tell stories at youth camps, schools, fund raising events, Christian music festivals, children's parties, and other events. They have both been teachers so their storytelling can be customize to any event. The storytelling can include such items as liturgical dance, slides and stories ministering to children in Bolivia, performing plays, and the like. Our storytelling is a fun, educational, sensitive adventure in ministry for the whole family. The stories and their biblical text are summarized on the next page. They are a blend of stories that appeal to children from three to 11 and their parents, Grandparents, youth ministers, and teachers who work with children. Children can listen to the CD while riding in cars, at home during quiet times, or as a family with parents and Grandparents. The stories can provide a setting to discuss faith and family values. All profits from the sale of the CD go to children and family ministries as coordinated by Wenatchee First United Methodist Church. If you would like to hear Grampa and Grammy Russell at your worship services, Christian festivals or other events, or if you would like to hear more about the stories please let us know by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. We are thankful that we are able to share this ministry of God and humbly pray that it is acceptable to our God. We thank the staff and congregation at First United Methodist Church for encouraging our ministry and providing administrative support. 'And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them, and said: Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.' Matthew 18:2-4.
